Follow your dream – Real Life

There was a moment, I remember it like it was yesterday, that Mark and I decided to give everything up and do what made us happy. Having lived the first half of our lives raising children and going to jobs we both hated, there came a breaking point. A point in time where we just couldn’t do it anymore. We began to question everything. It didn’t make sense that we would continue to do something on a continual basis that we loathed so much. That’s just crazy, right? I think it was this breaking point that began our shift in awareness. This shift came as emotions, waves that pounded on us. We rode these emotional waves for another couple of years, being too afraid to do anything else.

The breaking point came after an especially hard Chicago winter. If you’ve ever been to Chicago in winter, you’ll know exactly what I’m talking about. It’s beyond cold. Bone deep. To the very core of your soul, frozen. The snow was so high it covered the bushes out our front window, which gave the illusion of living in an underground bunker. And the silence, the stillness of everything. Time stops during winter, because you are waiting. Waiting for the sun to come out, waiting for it to stop snowing, waiting for the salt truck to come by and break up the monotony of the day. For us, this was not living. It was killing time before death came for us.

I think when you live in these kinds of conditions for a very long time, you toughen up. I know we did. It was this toughness that allowed us to make the decision to sell everything, grab our 2 dogs (the kids had moved out by this time) and a couple of suitcases and get the hell out of Dodge. We were done. Whatever happened after we left, we could handle it. We were tough.

The fun part was deciding where we wanted to go. We could go anywhere. Nothing was holding us back. After a bit of discussion, we decided to move to Florida. It was warm, the ocean was there and it wasn’t called the Sunshine State for nothing! Plus, Mark’s mother lived there and was getting up in age. She was alone and starting to become more and more forgetful. We wanted to be there for her and make the rest of her life a little easier.

By the end of that year we had sold or given just about everything we owned away. That in itself was one of the most liberating things I’ve ever gone through. Not at first… no, there were tears at first. It was hard seeing everything we had worked so hard for go out the door. That was the moment for me when I realized I wasn’t what I owned. My possessions didn’t define me. They had all my life, without me even knowing it. I had to let that part of myself die, so I could continue to move forward.

The night before Mark and I were heading out on our road trip, I remember standing in the middle of my empty living room looking around. My stomach was flipping, my palms were sweating and I was trembling inside. Seeing my life reduced to this empty room was almost too much for me. But there was no turning back now, there was no plan B. This was it, sink or swim. In that moment, I felt as if I was changing, shedding an old skin.

The dawn broke the next morning and we loaded up the dogs with the excitement of two teenagers. We didn’t know what the Universe had in store for us, but we were jumping in head first anyway.

Up next – Arriving in Florida…….

5 Ways to Instantly Raise Your Vibration

We all lead hectic lives, there’s no getting around that. But, there are a few things that you can do every day that can raise your vibration. Raising your vibration helps you to be more balanced during the day. Little things won’t bother you as much. It also helps you to connect with others and Lord knows we all need to do this a little more! It helps you to have sympathy and empathy for your fellow human being. It also aids as a protective shield against other people’s negative juju. We all have our own crap we’re trying to work out and this is a good way of putting out there the “what’s yours is yours and what’s mine is mine” vibration (we can still have empathy for another person without taking on their stuff). And lastly it raises you to a vibration that allows ancestors that have passed, angels and spirit guides to speak to you. It’s like meeting them in the middle.

  1. Practice gratitude – Right now, say 1 thing you are grateful for and MEAN IT! Do this throughout the day and you will find over time that your life is fuller. What you put your focus on is what you create. Period.
  2. Dance – Dancing is one of the best ways to raise your vibration. Do a little wiggle while you are standing in line at the grocery store. They always have the worst music playing (I know ours does!), but so what! Yes, people are going to look at you like you’re a crazy bird. Again I say, so what! While you are getting your groove on, you are releasing feel good endorphins in your body. And, if you can get someone else to smile, you are triggering them to release the same hormones in their bodies! Win win
  3. Hug a tree – I’m sure I just lost some of you… come back, come back! It’s okay to hug a tree. When you hug a tree you are putting the vibration of love into Mother Earth and She in turn sends it all around the world. You are also grounding yourself and that is crucial to raising your vibration.
  4. Smudge – Smudging with sage and Palo Santo not only clears your space of negative energies, it also emits negative ions into the air. Negative ions are the good ones that help you breathe better. It’s the same principle when you feel great after going in the ocean or after standing out in the rain. Those are negative ions at work too! We have a full line of smudging supplies in our shop (shameless plug, sorry!).
  5. Hug someone – We’re not talking about a quickie here either. It should be an embrace. Wrap your arms around someone you love and really hold them. Studies have shown that an extended hug has numerous benefits, including increasing the serotonin levels (that feel good hormone we were talking about earlier). If you can’t grab a loved one, hug a pet. Even hugging an inanimate object (a stuffed animal) releases these hormones.

Remember, your vibe attracts your tribe. So raise your vibration and see what happens. We’re pretty sure it’ll be something amazing!

Blessings & Light,

Meditating Can Reduce Your Age

Yep, we said it! Meditating can reduce your brain age by over 7 years. Researchers from NeuroImage published a new study suggesting that this could in fact, be the case.

The brains of 50 meditators were compared to the brains of 50 non-meditators. The study showed that participants that had been practicing meditation for 20 years on average, had younger brains than the non-meditating group. They also found that older meditators had particularly well-preserved brains, suggesting that meditation could provide protection against brain cell loss which is common in the aging. This research, while incredibly compelling, isn’t definitive. There are many factors in the aging process, and this is just one part of that process. Thrilling news nonetheless!

There are so many reasons why we all should be meditating every day, and this just added a no brainer (pun intended!) reason to that list. Having a younger brain enables you to focus better, to have better recall and to quickly problem solve.

It literally takes 5 minutes a day to get started meditating. So get started!

Full Flower Moon ~ May 21 2016

We are posting this a little earlier than we normally would because this full moon is going to be a challenge. Strap in for this Full Flower Moon in Sagittarius!

This is a time for emotional release, which is a good thing when done appropriately. This moon is all about bringing up buried emotions and memories that we’ve tried hard to forget. Working through them and releasing them is the beautiful lesson of this full moon. Unfortunately not everyone is aware of the effect the moon’s energy has on us and will turn those emotions on unsuspecting victims. This will be a time of aggression, anger and verbal explosions. This moon will trigger memories in some that are uncomfortable for them to deal with. This in turn leads to striking out at the people around us, for what seems like no reason. During this full moon some may become so angry they end up doing or saying things that will haunt them the rest of their lives.

It doesn’t have to play out like this if you pay close attention to how you are feeling around the 21st. If you feel yourself becoming angry or upset, take a breath. Step back from the situation, go for a walk, take a shower, meditate, listen to music, eat a pint of ice cream. Whatever it takes for you to cool off. Once you are calm, try to look at your feelings like an impartial party. Look at these emotions as if they aren’t yours, but your best friend’s. Don’t judge, push the feeling aside or feel bad about feeling bad! There is a lesson that these feelings are trying to teach you. Learn the lesson so you can move forward.
